Dr. Sheri Clarkson, BSc, DVM, DACVIM (Internal Medicine)

Sheri grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan but has strong family roots in Alberta which is the reason she returned to Alberta after gathering advanced education in the United States. In 1996, Sheri graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After completion of her veterinary degree she went to Tuft University, Foster Hospital for Small Animals, in North Grafton, Mass. to pursue an internship in Emergency Critical Care and Anesthesia. From 1997 through to 2000, Sheri was in Lansing, Michigan at Michigan State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital completing a Small Animal Internal Medicine residency. During her residency she also spent time at North Carolina State University Veterinary teaching Hospitals in the Oncology department. Since becoming board certified in Internal medicine, Sheri worked in two large private practice specialty referral hospitals one in North Carolina (2000 – 2003) and one in Calgary (2004-2009). Just recently Sheri went out on her own and started Clarkson Veterinary Internal Medicine Services Inc to continue offering her type of specialty practice to the veterinary community of Calgary and surrounding areas.

Sheri's research papers have concentrated around the development of a diagnostic test for diabetes insipidus in the dog and Shetland Sheepdog Leukodystropy (a disorder in the Sheltie's defined by Sheri in her residency). During her residency Sheri developed a strong interest in ultrasound and has integrated imaging into her form of practice. Her interests are diverse but endocrinology, gastroenterology (bowel, liver, pancreas), nephrology/urology (kidney and bladder) and immunology/hematology top the list. Sheri has a husband, two little girls, and a Golden retriever that keep her busy when she is not at work.
